Sept 29--Sebumpul and Fiji Waterfalls
These waterfalls were exhausting. One picture is of the coffee bean pod broken open to show the coffee beans inside--they turn dark brown when roasted. The picture of the fruit is snake fruit. I was given one by the guy who had the refreshment stand. Our guide peeled it and gave it to me to eat. It tastes like an apple though less juicy. The journey began when Adi drove us to the entry to the waterfall area. There we were put on scooters for the 6 minute ride down to our guide. My first time on a scooter and I enjoyed it a lot. I did think about road rash if something happened as we were going fast with no helmets. Then our guide led us to the two waterfalls. Again a lot of climbing over rocks. It was still about 37 degrees so brutally hot. It was beautiful at the bottom. Then the horrible long climb up the over 350 steps. The path and stairs were challenging. Some steps were a foot high which is difficult for a short person like me. I began to struggle so we had to stop. My heart was pounding. We had to stop a few more times as I felt worse--weak and pounding headache. I was worried as I shouldn't have struggled that much. The end part was difficult and it took all I had to keep climbing the stairs. I was exhausted and grateful to have made it. Heather said I had the classic symptoms of dehydration. I was relieved as I had felt old and quite incapable of a big climb though I had just finished a big climb at the waterfall we had done first. I had been drinking water but not enough with the extra effort in climbing up.
