Leaving for Penida Island |
little worship area |
rough narrow road up |
Penida Island was a real contrast. The land was barren, brown and dry. The water was absolutely beautiful. Dry and brown because of the dry extra hot weather they have had. Again it was about 35 degrees. The boat was beautiful and took about 30 mins to get there. Adi came with us and had arranged a driver for us. He was paid the equivalent of $10 to drive us all day under horrible conditions. The winding road up was 90t% horrible, The road is barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass and there is a ragged sharp edge on the road. Sometimes cars passed with literally maybe 2 inches to spare. Our car got scraped as someone went by. Imagine the worst potholed road possible. That is the road we had to drive on to get to the top which took about 40 minutes. We bounced and bounced the whole way up. Adi said because of the distance from the bottom and the narrow road made it difficult to fix the road and this is the way it will be, Some of the holes were deep. Not sure how long tires and suspensions can last under these conditions. Always convoys of people driving up passing convoys coming down, The drive up was to see Broken Island which will be my next post.
The picture of the waterfall into the ocean is stunning!
